States: 128.1 as described.
128.2 between 1580 and 1581 the entire plate was re-engraved, because the numerous mountains had all faded. During this re-engraving, quite a few changes were made. The mountain at 7 o'clock just outside the ring framing the cartouche had diagonal hatching from upper right to lower left; in this second state the hatching goes from upper left to lower right. The right side ornament just outside the ring framing the cartouche is blank in state 1, but has horizontal/diagonal cross hatching in state 2. The middle lobe at the bottom (6 o'clock) and its attachment are blank in state 1, but stippled in state 2.
Unintentional states are provided by a crack at the bottom of the plate, below the G of "LIGVS".
The crack is first visible in the 1579L(A) edition. By 1584, it has widened and has been repaired with 6 bolts. This cracking process continues and in 1612 there is a wide gap resulting in a very heavy ink line of about 3 mm wide extending vertically for 40 mm, ending above the "LIGVS" lettering.
