These plates were engraved in 1598 and a separate publication of the 4 maps only was printed shortly after Ortelius'death, of which very few copies have survived. In 1618, Bertius bought a limited number of offprints of these maps as well as other Parergon maps. He introduced new headings along the top of each strip and reduced Ortelius'text which covered all four the backsides of the maps to text on verso of the first sheet only. The Bertius version is the first appearance of these four maps in an atlas. Most copies of these maps derive from the 1624 Latin Parergon, which is the only Parergon printed separately, and the only atlas edition by Ortelius/Vrients in which these maps occur. These Bertius-derived map are much rarer than those from the 1624 Latin Parergon.
